The Separating Line

A ground-breaking new work for gospel singers and string orchestra

In contemporary classical music, the distinction between the sacred and the secular is very clear, but Afro-diasporic music it’s far more fluid. So I’ve designed a piece that uses gospel singers to bring the strings from a secularised place – where decisions are rational and mostly directed by the composer – to a more spiritualised place, where players are more reliant on their intuition and on their interactions with each other and the singers.

RPS called it “A huge moment for transcultural music and a spectacular collaboration to witness”
