Call:Response

For flexible percussion ensemble, this work takes a unique approach to collaboration with the ensemble, and provides a structure for performers to incorporate their own ideas and improvisations. 

The music of the African diaspora has retained many traits of its traditional African musical heritage, and one of the most ubiquitous is the structural tool of Call & Response. This work attempts to explore its potential to facilitate musical dialogue, and offers the player a means to contribute musical ideas in a structured way to a collective expression of musical thought.
